On December 8, the city of Lyon lights up for the Festival of Lights (a nod to Jessica, ærige lawyer), another light shines on the workplace: that of our energy consumption.
In 2024, the French tertiary sector consumed 265 terawatt hours of energy over an area of 1.2 billion square meters. This reality places energy efficiency at the center of obligations and opportunities, as reducing energy consumption has become an essential lever for sustainable development.
Since the publication of the “Eco-Energy Tertiary” decree (decree no. 2019-771 of July 23, 2019), companies carrying out tertiary activities in a building whose total tertiary-use floor area exceeds 1,000 m², must enter their data on OPERAT, the national platform for collecting and monitoring energy consumption managed by the Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME).
The objective is clear: measure, report, reduce. And in the field, the year 2024 saw nearly 750,000 reports.
This approach to environmental responsibility also extends to mobility. The use of 100% electric company cars is therefore supported under French law. Since February 1, 2025, they have benefited from a tax reduction, and electric charging costs are not taxed.
Between energy obligations and sustainable transition, the light is shining on a change of model… watt by watt.
Any area of darkness on employment side?
